Daring. Distinguished. Downright Comfortable.
In this Mountain Brook great room, bold moves meet effortless livability. We reimagined the partially built custom home with cleaner lines, striking scale, and a mix of textures that feel both modern and organic. The result is a space that’s as ready for game day as it is for quiet mornings — invigorating and uplifting without ever overpowering.

A social media influencer was unable to finish building this custom home when my client came along and saw its potential. We gutted the already outdated kitchen and got to work.

Overscaled and impossible to ignore — black open-weave rattan pendants that feel both bold and organic. Their modern, angular form makes them the star of this kitchen.

Mushroom-shaped stools by Scout pull double duty — functional seating with a cheeky nod to nature. Wrapped in natural hide, their soft beige-brown keeps the palette grounded while the rest of the design leans fun and avant-garde.

These Anthropologie chairs bring the perfect shade of green, anchoring a simple palette of green, ivory, black, and oak.

Flat-slab rift-cut white oak cabinetry, free of hardware, creates a seamless backdrop that draws all eyes to the show-stopping Viola slab countertops.

Waterfall stone and wipe-clean leather stools prove you can have practicality and pure magnificence in the same kitchen

If you know Edra, you know chic.

The main kitchen stays beautifully clutter-free, thanks to a butler’s kitchen just beyond — home to the ice maker, drink fridge, coffee station, and an extra stove to keep the counter mess out of sight.

In the breakfast area, an ivory beaded Palecek fixture holds its own as a focal point — quietly textured and elegant, it complements rather than competes with the island’s statement lighting.

The previous clients who were building this home went for a boring pencil fireplace bump-out.

Designer Kristi Kennimer created an all-new asymmetrical fireplace surround, blending stones and woods pulled from throughout the great room for a cohesive, custom look.

The bones of the new asymmetrical fireplace surround go in — the start of a bold new focal point.

Various elements hit at different dimensions. We even added a mantle for holiday stockings.

The final fireplace surround pulls no punches — an overscaled fluted strip, flat white oak, a black leathered quartz hearth, and a hit of Viola stone from the kitchen, all framing a super-wide firebox.

From the very beginning, the client knew her painting by Kristi Kennimer would live here, and the room was designed to complement it.

We even plan and design our throw pillow game

The room was taking shape, but the rug had to be fun and livable. We started with an existing design, injected a pop of chartreuse, and customized the colors and size to make it entirely our own.

Known for her mastery of color theory, artist and chief designer Kristi Kennimer builds every palette from the Pantone Fashion Book library. Here, the living room scheme heads to the rug artisan for custom creation.

Black leathered stone climbs the walls and covers the countertops in this Kennimer-designed wet bar, with a floor-to-ceiling glass cabinet bringing the sparkle.
